The History
In January 2005 the 'Jump Britain' documentary saw it's first airing. It was this that introduced Bloobirds, InMotion, Blaze, Soapy and Colexus to parkour. At the time parkour and freerunning were not very well known at all in the Luton and Bedfordshire and so the 'Luton Parkour Team' was formed by Bloobirds, Blaze, InMotion and Colexus with a goal to spread the positive word of parkour and bring it to a wider audience in Luton. Later that year a decision was made to change the team name to 'Enigma' to allow us to spread outside of Luton, it was at then that the decision was made to bring Soapy into the team.
One thing we pride ourselves in is always welcoming new people to train with us, to make this easier we set up regular, weekly training sessions and a public forum to encourage new people to get in contact with us and start training in a safe and responsible way. It was through the forum and regular training sessions that Tim first started training during Easter 2007. Since then he continued to train regularly with us and showed great potential and a great attitude towards his parkour training and was always felt as an honorary member of Enigma.
Towards the end of 2007 interest in the regular training sessions stopped and the forum was no longer used. In January 2008 Maz contacted Bloobirds, saying that he was interested in starting parkour and was wondering if there were going to be any training sessions soon. Always willing to help new people out, Bloobirds contacted Colexus and a training session was set up. During this session Bloobirds had the idea to create BedsParkour, originally just an online forum, and discussed it with Colexus and Maz. It was that evening that BedsParkour was created. As Bloobirds worked on promoting the forum, interest grew and the forum began to thrive. In order to help keep things under control and help newcomers start their parkour journey, Bloobirds developed the core BedsParkour team, a group of individuals with a goal to promote a respectable image of parkour throughout Bedfordshire. In May 2008 Bloobirds had the idea to create a full BedsParkour website to allow people to keep up-to-date with local parkour news and to act as a resource for practitioners of parkour in Bedfordshire; full of articles, videos, pictures, links and training hotspot maps designed purely with newcomers in mind.

What We Do/Our Aims
The BedsParkour team is here with the sole purpose of helping you out. We strive to promote a positive image of parkour throughout Luton and Bedfordshire and help newcomers to parkour or freerunning find their way to training responsibly and effectively. We run training sessions in Luton every week so that both experienced practitioners and newcomers can train with others. Our main asset is the forum, we run this so practitioners can find details of training sessions, find other people to train with in their area, discuss parkour related topics with other people and ask any questions they may have. As well as helping people already interested in parkour, we also look to help introduce people to parkour and generate positive interest throughout Luton and Bedfordshire.
The main aims of BedsParkour are to help practitioners of parkour to train safely and responsibly and to teach respect for our environment. We aim to help introduce people to parkour, with a positive attitude to training. We also help people to understand their bodies and the effects parkour has on it, with the goal to help prevent injury from happening. |
